Oratorio "SAUL" was composed in English and based on text of the Old Testament's books of Samuel. It will be performed in Germany, the country of the composer’s birth, and in Israel, where the historical events of King Saul took place.
Participants (approx. 60 persons)
• Choir and Orchestra ”Laudamus Te“ from Stuttgart
• Guest musicians from Israel
• Soloists from Israel, Germany and Brazil
• Conductor: Monica Meira Vasques
This Project was inspired by the desire to establish and promote personal contacts and friendships with Jewish people in Israel, and thereby build solid and lasting bridges of understanding. The conductor Monica Meira Vasques, as well as most of the singers and musicians in “Laudamus Te“ (“We praise you“), the group founded by Vasques in 2007, have been in Israel privately and for various musical projects.
Previous Concerts in ISRAEL under the Direction of Monica Meira Vasques
• 2004: “The Messiah“ by Handel in Jerusalem as part of the Jerusalem Festival of Arts, Shavei Zion and Herzliya (with the Stuttgart Academy Choir and Orchestra)
• 2006: "Elijah" by Mendelssohn in the Henry Crown Theater in Jerusalem
Coproduction: Jerusalem Oratorio Choir (Conductor: Ronen Borshevsky), Stuttgart Academy Choir and “German-Israeli Philharmonic”. (After the tour in Israel joint concerts were given in Germany).
• 2008: „Requiem“ by Fauré (for female choir) in Jerusalem, with the Jerusalem Oratorio Women’s Choir (Conductor Flora Vinokourov) together with the “Laudamus Te” Women’s Choir; in addition, Psalms by Schubert, Mendelssohn and Rheinberger (performed by “Laudamus Te”)
Funding
The choir and orchestra members themselves cover most of the costs.
Nevertheless, we are dependant on financial assistance, especially to be able to promote the cultural exchange between Israeli and German students by allowing them to practice and perform together.
We are therefore grateful for any contributions to this project. (Contributions are tax deductible in Germany).
